In 1984, Paul Walter joined a small suburban practice in Arncliffe. He was later joined by Ron Jenkins and Ken Madden, and, in 1995, Walter Madden Jenkins moved to its present location in the city.

 

Whilst maintaining its origins as a general legal practice, Walter Madden Jenkins developed into a specialist provider of legal services to members of the emergency services, in particular the NSW Police Force.

Our Legal Practitioners

Paul Walter

Paul Walter is a Director and founding partner of Walter Madden Jenkins. Admitted to practice in 1983, Paul has particular expertise in commercial and property law. He also practices conveyancing, wills and probate, and administrative law.

 

Paul is an experienced practitioner in the Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court of NSW. A former NSW police officer, Paul also appears in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW in disciplinary and industrial law matters involving former and serving NSW police officers.

Ken Madden

Ken Madden is also a Director and founding partner of Walter Madden Jenkins. Ken was admitted to practice in 1983 and is a NSW Law Society accredited criminal law specialist. He is a former NSW police officer specialising in criminal, coronial and industrial law.

 

Ken has decades of experience in criminal jurisdictions from the Local Court of NSW to the High Court of Australia and vast experience in the NSW coronial jurisdiction. He has regularly appeared before the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the NSW Crime Commission, the Australian Crime Commission, the Police Integrity Commission and in inquiries conducted by the NSW Ombudsman. Ken also appears in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW in disciplinary matters involving former and serving NSW police officers.

 

Ken was a legal representative in the Royal Commission into the New South Wales Police Service (Wood Royal Commission) and acted for a key witness in the Inquest into the deaths arising from the Lindt Café siege.

Mathew Treharne

Mathew Treharne is an executive lawyer with Walter Madden Jenkins. Mathew was admitted to practice in 1993 and has extensive experience in criminal law, industrial law, workers compensation law, commercial litigation, and wills and estate law.

 

A major area of Mathew’s practice is representing police officers in internal workplace investigations, disciplinary matters and unfair dismissal claims in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW.

 

Mathew also specialises in representing former police officers in pursuing entitlements under the Police Superannuation Scheme including applications for reclassification of workplace injuries, medical discharge, pension entitlement and compensation disputes.

Sara McLean

Sara McLean is an associate lawyer with Walter Madden Jenkins. Sara was admitted to practice in 2011 and specialises in representing former police officers in pursuing entitlements under the Police Superannuation Scheme including applications for reclassification of workplace injuries, medical discharge, pension entitlement and compensation disputes. Sara regularly acts for clients seeking review of decisions of the Commissioner of Police and the SAS Trustee Corporation in proceedings before the District Court of NSW and Industrial Relations Commission of NSW.
